Filler Joist Restoration
The filler joist method of floor slab construction, prevalent in council housing constructed during the 1920'sand 1930's, entailed encasing steel 'I' section beams within (generally poor quality) concrete containing clinker and brick aggregate. Corrosion of the steel beams, due mainly to the porosity of the concrete, causes cracking. Vacuum injection, with it's ability to control resin flow, can successfully be used to encapsulate the steel beams, thus minimising the risk of future corrosion.
