Argos Distribution Centre
Company: Gazeley Properties
Location: Stafford
Argos distribution Centre was built in or around 1997 and is one of the largest retail distribution centres in the UK.
Defects in the hardstanding concrete floor slab became apparent around the year 2000, most noticeably around the perimeter of the bays, where construction/movement joints offer a vulnerable environment for the break down of concrete which is subjected to continual H G V trafficking.
Repairs to defective areas where carried out in 2002 but through poor execution and or incorrect material selection those repairs had failed.
Resitech Limited where selected by Gazeley Properties Limited (the developer of the site) to provide a proposal to undertake remedial works to the concrete slab that would offer long term durability.
The site is active 24hrs a day with 44 tonne Heavy Goods Vehicles continually moving around the premises. Traffic Management was therefore a priority within the proposal strategy along with careful material selection.
80 No repairs of varying sizes had been identified and the client had set a contract period of 4 weeks to complete the work.
Resitech’s proposal was accepted and the contract commenced on Monday 19th July 2004.
A two component solvent free thixotropic epoxy adhesive was chosen as a primer for the repairs, followed by a three component solvent free epoxy repair mortar, finished level with the surrounding area. The joints at the perimeter of the repairs where replaced with a two component solvent free rapid curing polyurethane flexible grout.
The project was completed on the 6th August, 1 week ahead of schedule and to budget.
The clients comments on Resitech’s Customer Satisfaction Report are quoted “Very satisfied with quality of works, response time and overall performance”.
