Arriva Bus depot in Speke, Liverpool houses the companies busy maintenance hub and serves Arriva’s city wide bus fleet for ongoing maintenance and repair issues. The depot has 8 number service pits, along with an MOT inspection area, and it extends to a floor space in excess of 1000 square metres.
THE PROBLEM
Resitech were asked to look at a problem concerning the existing epoxy resin floor coating at Arriva’s Bus Depot in Speke, Liverpool.
The existing epoxy coating had suffered from mechanical impact damage resulting from the day to day activities at this very busy bus fleet service and repair depot.
Inspection and testing carried out by our client seemed to indicate a problem concerning the surface preparation during the initial installation of the system. This coupled with the impact damage suffered at the site had resulted in localised failing and lifting of the existing floor coating.
THE SOLUTION
Resitech Limited were tasked to provide a solution which involved the removal and re-installation of the existing coating. To complicate matters the bus depot had to remain in use during the course of our works, therefore careful planning and phasing had to be implemented in order to minimise any possible disruption. With this in mind the entire existing coating was removed in phases using heavy duty dust free grinding techniques. Limpet testing was then carried out to determine the adequacy of the surface preparation prior to the installation of a complete new Epoxy flooring system.
The works covering approximately 1000m2 were successfully completed during October to December 2013 with minimal disruption to Arriva’s on site operations.
